CYS
Civic Youth Strategy - nothing more (and nothing less) than a paper document stating that Vancouver’s government is committed to working with youth and the community in general, to:
- ensure that youth have “a place” in the city
- ensure a strong youth voice in decision-making
- promote youth as a resource to the City
- strengthen the support base for youth in the city
The original document is available on the City of Vancouver’s website. It appears that this was before Windows came into the picture. But hey, you wanted the original.
YOT
Youth Outreach Team - a team of youth hired by the City whose goal it is to implement the goals and recommendations outlined in the CYS.
City vs. city
With a capital C, we mean the City of Vancouver Corporation (the government). With a small C, we mean Vancouver itself, the land and the people.
Meaningful Youth Engagement, Involvement and Participation
Our goal is to involve youth meaningfully, in the city and in the City. Having youth participate, but not meaningfully, is pointless. Their involvement has to matter, to the overall scheme but also to themselves.
