With guidance from the Centre Recreation Programmer and the Day Camp Manager, this position primarily involves direct supervision, leadership, safety and planning activities for children.

Responsibilities
• Responsible for the safety, leadership and supervision of children aged 6-12 years old
• With other staff members – plans, organizes and leads appropriate summer activities
• Leads children in Special Events, out-trips, sports, games, art, music and educational activities
• Disciplines children using teaching, encouragement, natural and logical consequence methods
• Assists with managing and mentoring volunteers
• Maintains courteous and professional communication with parents, children, colleagues and volunteers
• Responds to first aid needs and unusual incidents
• Maintains cleanliness and security of program rooms after use
• Performs basic administrative tasks such as accurate attendance checks, petty cash handling, and writing
progress reports

Qualifications
• Experience working with groups of children 6-12 years of age in a recreational or educational program setting
• Good organizational, supervisory, interpersonal and communications skills
• Diverse knowledge of activities and outings suitable for children 6–12 years old
• Ability to work well with children and understands their developmental abilities and needs
• Demonstrates ability to deal with emergencies, unusual incidents and behavior challenges
• Ability to work as a positive team member
• Demonstrates high levels of initiative, eagerness to learn and resourcefulness
• Current First Aid & CPR certification required

Necessary conditions for consideration (Student Summer Jobs initiative)
In compliance with the Canada Summer Jobs Grant/HRSDC guidelines, all applicants must:
• Employment is subject to successful clearance of police information check including vulnerable sectors search
• Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
• Between the ages of 15-30 years old at the start of the employment.

Terms/Conditions of Employment
• $16.50 per hour, including holiday pay
40 hrs of planning and training from June 8 – June 24
40 hrs per week Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm from June 29 – August 21
(May vary slightly in accordance with operations)
• Dependent upon funding from Human Resources and Social Development (Government of Canada)
