Civic Committees Seek YOU!

Civic boards, councils and commissions are a great opportunity to get involved in your City. Four bodies are currently looking for volunteer members. The deadline to apply is March 29, 2012.

Opportunities:

The Urban Aboriginal Peoples Advisory Council provides advice and makes recommendations to Council on matters within the City’s jurisdiction on issues of concern to Vancouver Urban Aboriginal Communities. This council specifically needs representatives from the Downtown Eastside and youth aged 15-24.

The Naming Committee advises Council on matters pertaining to the naming of assets. It recommends names for items such as streets and roads, development areas, pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, City-owned assets and facilities to Council for approval.

The Board of Variance is an appeal body that hears and then decides upon appeals regarding zoning, development permit, signage, tree by-law, and parking matters.

The Arts and Culture Policy Council is a new body created to advise City Council on all civic programs that relate to arts and culture.
