What would your world look like free from discrimination?

What would your world look like free from discrimination?

We all have a story. One that involves who we are, where we came from, how we got here and all the lessons learned – hard or otherwise, in between. We have dreams and aspirations, friends and family and the gift of modern technology to connect with the world and share our stories. citizenU is proud to partner with Reel Youth, Peace It Together, and Multimedia & Multiculturalism (United Nations Association in Canada) for a three week film making project called “What would your world look like free from discrimination?” and "What does our society, governments, teachers, parents, peers and you need to do to solve this problem?" We are looking for 20 youth from across Vancouver from a variety of backgrounds and experiences to answer that question and tell us their stories. We invite you to be as creative, open-minded and connect with as many people as you see fit. We want to encourage and foster intergenerational, intercultural and interfaith dialogue. We want to provide you with opportunities to connect with your peers and members of your community in a safe and fun environment. And we want to give you the opportunity to develop new skills that you’ll be able to use for the rest of your life. But most importantly, we want to hear from YOU.

In the summer of 2013, we will host a public screening event and dialogue to showcase your films and discuss how media plays a role in enabling and preventing discrimination and racism. You’ll have the opportunity to answer questions and voice your opinions with other members in media-related fields. Finally, your films will be published online on the vancouveryouth.ca, Reel Youth and United Nations Association websites. It will also be screened at a Peace It Together event.  More details to come in regards to the event.
